We intend the annual SWSPDA Summer School to be the highlight of the piping year for everyone who attends. It is an opportunity for young musicians to make a leap forward in the quality of their playing. They will spend an intensive week with some of the best tutors in Scotland and should be prepared for some hard work. However the social aspect of the Summer School is important too. This is a gathering of the region’s most enthusiastic young pipers and drummers and their shared interest provides a context in which friendships are easily made.
In 2019, we will be continuing to host our very popular end-of-school concert where the students can show off their new skills. New to 2019, students will also be able to sit their PDBQ exams as part of the summer school process - do get in touch for more details if you would be interested in this
SWSPDA aims to assist all those in Dumfries & Galloway who wish to improve their piping and drumming, whatever their financial circumstances. The Summer School is heavily subsidised for all students, due to the generosity of our charitable donors. However, even more significant bursaries are available for those who qualify for Free School Meals. Please download the short Declaration form here or use the ‘Contact’ page to request an additional form and submit it with your main Summer School application.
